Instrumental Grade 9 | This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use. | | Grade 10 | This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology and history. | | Grade 11 | This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyse and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities. | | Grade 12 | This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and from the twentieth century, including jazz, popular music, art music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently. They will also complete complex creative projects in which they make use of new technologies. | Concert Band | Grade 9 Repertoire | | Junior Concert Band - A repertoire course designed for students who enjoy working on band music. The class will meet at least two mornings per week. You must also be registered in either AMU1OI, AMU1O0, or AMU1ON in order to be a member of the Concert Band. | | | Grade 10 - 12 Repertoire | Senior Concert Band - A repertoire course designed for students who enjoy working on band music. Grade 10 to Grade 12 students welcome. The class will meet two mornings per week, with a full band rehearsal each Sunday evening. Music Theatre | Grade 9 | This course emphasizes musical performance that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Students perform repertoire from the musical theatre, both as members of a classroom ensemble and as soloists. Student learning will include participating in creative activities such as scene-writing and song-writing, and listening perceptively. Admission to the course is by audition only. | | | Music Theater | | If you are interested in the Broadway Musical, this course is for you! Every student will be involved in the major spring musical production. In the past we have produced "Grease", "The Mikado", "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Sound of Music", "Takaru", "Annie", "Bye Bye Birdie", "The Pajama Game", and "Oklahoma". Students will learn how to perform for the musical comedy stage through the audition and rehearsal process. Acting, singing and dancing and performance are all part of the package. |

Open to trumpet, trombone, saxophone and rhythm section players. For these students, the guitar is the avenue to understanding, appreciation, and self-expression through music. The aim of the course is to teach students to play. The folk, pop/ contemporary, and classical methods will be studied. The course is designed for beginners through group instruction. Guitars and other materials are supplied. |
