The Laptop Program an innovative experience that give students the opportunity to use a laptop computer in the classroom as a tool for learning.

This program:

• enhances classroom activities and the curriculum by integrating technology to provide rich and meaningful learning experiences.
• teaches new technology skills and refines existing skills
• provides a comfortable environment i using technology in a variety of situations.

Our laptop classrooms are equipped with data projectors and sound systems to enhance the curriculum delivery.

Laptop students are connected to our network with their own laptop, allowing interaction with the teacher, other students and the internet. Activities include internet research, interactive web resources, developing presentations and multimedia projects, and submitting work with email.

Students:

• develop transferable skills expected in the work force and at the post secondary level.
• communicate with the teacher anytime, anywhere. They can receive help online via email and, can let the teacher know if difficulty is being experienced.
• remain connected to the class in the event of an absence.

Laptop Requirements

Most new laptops will do quite well in the program.

The type of laptop will depend on your son/daughter. If they are already into computers making animations and movies, a higher end computer is suggested. If they are a beginner, then closer to the minimum requirements will do. Like most things, you get what you pay for.

Suggested Minimum System Requirements:

• 512 MB Ram (1 or 2 GB is encouraged)
• 60 GB Hard Drive
• Wireless Internet
• Intel Pentium M Processor or newer
• CD (Reading needed, burner suggested)
• Ethernet Cable (3 ft)
• Carrying Case/Backpack
• Typical Systems cost $700 to $1400.

When purchasing a system, many businesses offer complete service/care options. We provide software for word processing, virus scanning, and other needs. Even the most careful of student can have an accident with transporting their laptop between classes, at home, on the bus, etc. It is recommended that you consider this option.
